Iran, Most Democratic Country in Region: Shamkhani

THERAN, Jan.7 (Mehr News Agency)—Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani, Iranian Defense Minister, said here Wednesday that that Washington’s wrong analysis of Iran’s inner status has always led them to make incorrect decisions.

He added that the U.S. also held a false viewpoint on Iran’s role in the Middle East.

The minister went on to say that the U.S. thought that Iran would be destabilized through a political party’s organized plan, adding that Washington assumed that inciting certain social needs would lead to the establishment of an anti-Iranian movement.

He said that the U.S. took advantage of the 1999 Tehran University dormitory incident and its aftermath on June 10, 2003.

“The incident was not caused by the political parties or what they called the process of democracy. The U.S. officials realized they were mistaken,” he said.

The minister stressed that Washington perceived that Iran is a permanent and stable country in the Middle East and that it is the most democratic country in the region, a matter that cannot be overlooked.

He stressed that the U.S. demonstrated the show to increase the popularity of the neoconservatives.
